Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)?
A Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) is a clinician in the process of becoming fully licensed under the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
As an RP(Qualifying), I am qualified to provide psychotherapy services under clinical supervision while completing my licensing requirements.
I want to start therapy—how do I begin?
You can start by booking a free 30-minute consultation. This session allows us to get to know each other, discuss your goals, and see if we’re a good fit. Simply fill out the contact form or email me, and I’ll respond within 2 - 3 days
What happens in the consultation?
The free consultation is a friendly space for introductions. It is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation to help us get to know each other.
It’s your opportunity to talk about what’s on your mind, what brings you to therapy, learn more about how I work, and ask any questions you might have.
We’ll also go over a few simple policies, to ensure that your first full session can focus on you.
If it turns out we’re not the right fit, I’ll do my best to guide you to someone who is.
How long are the sessions, and how frequent?
Sessions are 50 minutes long and most clients meet weekly, but we can adjust the frequency to biweekly based on your preferences and goals.
Sessions are often held at a regular time, arranged at a pace that feels right for the clients.
Are sessions confidential?
Your privacy is very important to me. What we talk about in sessions stays between us, unless you give written permission to share it. There are a few legal exceptions: if there’s a risk of serious harm, concerns about child safety, or a court order for records.
As part of my commitment to providing quality care, I discuss my work with a clinical supervisor, but your privacy is always respected and identifying information is not shared.
Are your sessions covered by insurance?
Insurance coverage varies by plan.
Check with your provider to see if sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) are included.
I don’t offer direct billing, so you’ll need to submit receipts for reimbursement.
How do I pay for sessions?
Payments are made via e-transfer before your session, unless discussed otherwise.
A receipt will be emailed to you after each session for your records or insurance claims.
What is your cancellation policy?
To best serve all clients, a 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling is required. The full session fee may apply for late cancellations, but of course, exceptions are made for emergencies or significant losses.
Do I need a referral to start therapy?
No referral is needed. You can reach out directly to schedule your free consultation and start your journey towards healing.
